Galesburg Airport Receives State Funds
Governor Pat Quinn and the Illinois Department of Transportation announced 9 million dollars for airport improvements across the state.

The Galesburg Municipal Airport was among those receiving monies in excess of $77,000.

Galesburg Public Works Department allocated the matching funds required in order to receive the state funds prior to receiving the grants.

The money will be put toward rehabilitating access pavement from the apron to the Fixed Based Operator hangar.

Public Works Director Larry Cox tells WGIL every year they have transportation improvement meetings with the Department of Transportation.

"They have a pavement condition assessment program and we look at the conditions of the various pavements and try to apply for grant monies and monies that we'd receive from the federal government to different areas at the airport."

The state funds come from 7 million dollars allocated through the Governors "Illinois Jobs Now!" plan.

A pavement inspection is completed by JetAir and the City every three years so the City can keep track of where funds need to be used.

In total, the City of Galesburg will be supplying 86-hundred dollars in addition to the state money bringing the total to more than $86,000

Galesburg received the least amount of funds of any municipality in the announcement, but Cox says that was simply the cost of the project.

The City will also be receiving funding for a taxiway in the neighborhood of $700,000.
