Lawmakers Speak to Chamber
State Representative Norine Hammond says something has been going on in Springfield that hasn't happened all too often in years past.

Hammond was one of the four area lawmakers to speak at a luncheon today hosted by the Galesburg-area Chamber of Commerce.

While all lawmakers agreed pension reform will be priority number one this year, Hammond says something happened this past year when the state budget was crafted.

"We have worked together with both the House Republicans and House Democrats on crafting a budget and dealing with many of the issues that have come before us as a state on a bi-partisan basis. It has been extremely healthy."

State Representative Don Moffitt says for the first time in years, that bi-partisan budget was balanced, and that's a good thing, too.

"The legislature passed a budget that was a realistic estimate of revenue. It was a bi-partisan estimate of revenue. For a decade or more the decision was made how much to spend and then estimated revenue at that amount. I mean I voted no on budgets for years.
