County Board Approves Union Contracts
The Knox County Board at Wednesday night's meeting approved contracts for the State's Attorney Employees, Corrections Unit, and Nursing Home Unions.

Approval of the contract came with little discussion at the meeting, but may be described as contentious leading up to the agreement.

With the nursing home in specific, AFSCME and the County were in talks for a year before deciding to bring in a federal mediator to assist in the process.

County Board Chair Greg Bacon tells WGIL what the agreement entails.

"We did get some...it had to do with the health insurance, moving to a different plan," Bacon said. "We did get on one of them...we got one personal day back. We have tried to cap our sick time to a point where they cannot keep it forever."

Nursing home employees picketed outside County Board and commission meetings frequently toward the end of last year to show their frustrations.

County board members approved the nursing home employees contract unanimously in addition to the other employee unions.

In what was described as regretful news at the nursing home, Board members also learned that nursing home administrator Kathy Kopsack will be resigning.
