Abingdon Schools Plan For Active Shooter Training
Plans are in the works to train for a possible deadly incident at the Abingdon school district.

The District 217 school board decided to give the go ahead to the Abingdon Police Department to start organizing plans for a shooter simulation.

The training would require the efforts of Abingdon Police, Galesburg Police, Knox County Sheriff's Deputies, and medical first responders.

Officer Jared Tapscott with the Abingdon Police Department says that they want to stage it like it's real.

"We want to be able to make it as real as possible so that everybody who responds can see where our flaws are. The board would actually have that set up how we'd enter the building, stuff like that, that we'd really need to hit on in order to actually feel comfortable should something happen."

The board gave the unanimous go ahead at Wednesday night's meeting.

Superintendent David Black reminded the board that it's important to keep the plans out in the public so as not to confuse or startle anyone.
