City Prepares For IDES Closure
The City of Galesburg sent out a press release late Friday afternoon regarding a joint effort with the City and IDES.

Due to Federal budget cuts the Illinois Department of Economic Security has decided to close 15 locations around the state including their office in Galesburg.

IDES originally sent out a press release last month announcing they were closing their local offices sometime in mid-March.

Mayor Sal Garza tried to work with IDES to find a way to keep the local office open but due to federal funding cuts closing Galesburg's IDES is unavoidable.

In the press release sent out by the City it says "Employment services, however, are key to a ready workforce and an growing economy. As such IDES is committed to working with local partners to identifying new ways to develop the workforce in the Galesburg area."

IDES will be working with local government including Mayor Garza and Workforce Investment Director Blanche Shoup to come up with the most efficient way to develop Galesburg's workforce.
