A Quick Dip in Lake Storey for Polar Plunge
With the high for Sunday in the low thirties and the water temperature of Lake Storey below freezing, the last thing you'd think you'd be watching would be people taking a plunge into the frigid waters.

But more thirty teams came out for this year's Polar Plunge despite the frozen lake.

There was a sea of orange as people checked in at the Lake Storey Pavilion where they handed in any checks or money collected off line and then it was off to change into their costumes.

People were dressed in everything from just bathing suits and Speedos to a man painted green with shamrocks.

Members of the United Red Storm came with red and black tutus over football jerseys.

Team member Kaylee McLaughlin didn't plunge with the team, but instead she tells WGIL she had a very important job.

"I'm just going to be the person that takes pictures all the time," McLaughlin said. "I'm like their personal cheerleader."

And when it came time for her team to take the Plunge, McLaughlin tells WGIL the joke's on them.

"It's awesome. I'm going to be cracking up, laughing," McLaughlin said.

All laughing aside this years Polar Plunge saw more than 300 people run into and very quickly out of Lake Storey.

More than $50,000 was raised for Special Olympics Illinois.

The top group brought in more than $4,000 and the top single donor collected more than $1,000.
