Knoxville City Council Looks into New Parking Lot for Elementary School
Knoxville's Elementary school is getting a new parking lot but the City Council has to approve whether or not they'd like to see street parking across from the school.

Superintendent Steven Wilder sent a letter to the Council with a map of the new parking lot and two areas on Pleasant Ave across from the circle drive that he'd like changed.

That didn't sit well with Council members.

"I guess I don't have a problem with the yellow but I do have a problem with the green. If you open that back up it's just going to allow people to use that instead of their 126 spaces so I can see where they're going to have trouble exciting with buses I can agree with that but I can't go with opening that back up."

What third ward alderman Rob Derham is referring too is a section of Pleasant Ave that's across from the school where the buses exit.

Superintendent Wilder would like to open that area up for parking--but Council members are worried that would make it harder for buses to get out.

The Council would like to keep that area as a no parking zone in order to avoid accidents.

No action was taken on the matter.

The council will talk with Superintendent Wilder and share their concerns with him and will take the matter up at a later date.
