Orpheum Board Asked to Reconsider Upgrade Project
$450,000 won't be enough possibly to make all the heating and air conditioning upgrades needed for Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre.

That's according to Gary Reinheimer with Quad Cities-based KJWW -- the engineer on the project. He told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board yesterday that if everything was done that the board wanted done, the work could cost upwards of $600,000, and that's not counting any contingencies that are usually built into such a project.

Reinheimer told the board it was recently learned that money needs to be added to the project, in order to put a new heating and air conditioning unit on part of the theatre's roof, because brickwork needs to be done first.

"$54,855.00 to repair the brick work so we can put the mechanical equipment up on the stage roof. The equipment's not really going to sit on the roof it's going put new structure beams across the parapets for brick to brick and that's where the equipment's gonna set.

The board is now trying to determine if their mostly antiquated boiler can hold out another year, and some inspections are planned to see if that can be done.

In the meantime, CCA members were asked to think about what parts of the project they'd really like to see done, and come to their regular meeting February 20th with ideas.
