Council Forgoes Rules, Exchanges Future Site
Monday Night's City Council meeting saw very little discussion on exchanging property with the Galesburg Public Library.

The ordinance went under first reading Monday night, but not before a public hearing on the matter took place.

No discussion or concerns were had on the transfer, prompting aldermen to suspend the rules and vote on the ordinance itself.

Library Board of Trustees Chair Martin Reichel told the council he appreciated the confidence of the council.

"We're working very hard to continue to marriage your confidence and we hope now that this matter has been resolved that we can go ahead and start purchasing the properties and of course lining up the financing, that's the big thing."

The library board will discuss the hiring of a construction manager at their Thursday meeting.

Several aldermen encouraged the public to take a look at possible designs for the new library on the second floor of the existing library.

Approval of the ordinance also means there will be no second hearing on the transfer of the property.

The library board also received word that Melvin Siverly will take the place of Mike Kroll on the board after an appointment was completed at the Council meeting.
