Galesburg Honors Man Killed in Stabbing Last Month
The Galesburg community has once again honored a local man who lost his life due to a stabbing incident last month.

A benefit was held Saturday for the family of 23-year old Robert Kilgore -- who died January 20th after suffering from multiple stab wounds when family members say he tried to stop a burglary to his vehicle parked outside a Chestnut Street home.

Dawn Hutchison of Galesburg organized the event -- the first of its type she's ever put together -- and tells WGIL her reason for wanting to help was simple.

"I've been friends of the family for as long as I can remember," Hutchison said. "I just wanted to do something to help them."

Hutchison tells WGIL Kilgore was very likeable.

"He was just really quiet, and really helpful," said Hutchison said. "He was just a good guy."

Hutchison says over 200 items were donated by friends and local businesses for a silent auction -- one of a number of activities planned for the benefit that she says saw an estimated 750 people attend.

Proceeds, Hutchison says, will help pay funeral and burial expenses.

25-year old Kai Lefler of Oneida faces murder and weapons charges in the death. He'll be back in court February 19th and is jailed on $1 million bond.
