Patrick Fitzgerald to Give Knox Commencement Address
POSTED 1:15pm 3/12/09 Knox College continues to get speakers with name recognition.

The college announced on Thursday that Patrick Fitzgerald, U-S Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, will deliver the commencement address at Knox on June 6th. Knox College President Roger Taylor called Fitzgerald's leadership in combating crime "exemplary" and says the students have once again picked a national figure to address their class at commencement.

Fitzgerald's most recent work includes fighting corruption in the Illinois Governor's office. He announced in December the arrest of former governor Rod Blagojevich for allegedly plotting to sell the U-S Senate seat previously held by President Barack Obama. Fitzgerald also supervised the public corruption investigation that resulted in the imprisonment of former Governor George Ryan.

Fitzgerald has been in his current job since October of 2001, when he was confirmed by the Senate. He will be awarded an honorary degree by Knox College.

This year will mark the fifth straight year that a commencement speaker from recent headlines has accepted Knox's invitation to deliver the address to graduating seniors. The others were Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright last year, former President Bill Clinton in 2007, Steven Colbert in 2006 and President Barack Obama, who was a U-S Senator when he spoke in 2005.
