Knox County Board Approves Pay Raises
Three Knox County officers will get pay raises -- in some cases, whether they wanted them or not.

With votes of 11-to-two, the Knox County Board Wednesday night granted pay raises for the Knox County Coroner, Recorder, and County Board Chairman.

For Chair Greg Bacon, who recently changed his mind and announced re-election for his seat on the board from District-two, that means a raise from just over 41-hundred dollars a year, to six-thousand.

Bacon told his board colleagues the raise is nice, but just not fair, despite the window for considering the raises prior to election expiring.

"You guys should get a raise if I get a raise," Bacon said. "I don't think we should single one person out. I've made views clear on this to other board members."

"We're a team, if one should get a raise, we should all get a raise. And I firmly believe that."

Bacon says there's still a lot he does as board chairman that he's just not paid for. Bacon voted "no" on the raise for himself, but "yes" on the raises for Recorder and Coroner.

The board Wednesday night also heard from a Knox County Nursing Home employee explaining why union employees there are against the county's latest contract offer after six-months of negotiations.

Bacon declined to comment on the issue.
