War Crimes Lawyer Gives Knox College Commencement
POSTED 12:05pm 6/2/12 Bridges were the topic of the commencement speech given by the top war crimes prosecutor in the military system.

Brigadier General Mark Martins spoke to Knox College's 328 newest graduates Saturday, and encouraged the students to bridge gaps in the world.

More specifically, Martins told the graduates that they can help change the world by bridging such gaps.

"Look for contrasting worlds, and be a bridge to them," Martins said. "We all have received substantial exposure to something like this methodology at least on an academic level, in our common college curriculum."

Martins says it may not always be easy, and bridging gaps will mean sacrifice, but such service will lead to a life of meaning.

Martins also referenced Knox College graduates who participated in historical wars, and talked of the current situation in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Martins and two others received honorary degrees from Knox, and professor Lance Factor was given a faculty achievement award funded by Caterpillar.
