Local Officers Pass the Torch for an Important Cause
The local law enforcement community once again has expressed their support for local athletes with disabilities.

Just a day before the start of the annual Summer Games at Illinois State University, the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run came through Galesburg Wednesday. Local police officers including those from Galesburg and State Police and the Knox County Sheriffs Department, ran through town Wednesday and to Saint Mary's Square Living Center. They continued the run Thursday to the Knox/Peoria County Line.

Galesburg Police Sergeant Dan Hostens was one of the runners.

"I've been with the police department for fifteen and half years, and have ran almost every year," he said. "It's a great cause. Special Olympics is a great way for these individuals with special needs to get out, and compete, and it's just a great cause."

Several other officers we talked with all said the same thing: the great cause was the reason for running, even if it meant they'd feel the burn a bit later on.

Funds raised from the Torch Run and associated events all go to Special Olympics. The summer games run Friday through Sunday.
