Hundreds of Copper Pieces Stolen from Galesburg Manufacturer
A Galesburg manufacturer has fallen victim to a copper thief in a big way.

Police say four-hundred-and-eight pieces of copper turned up missing Monday from a locked cage at Midstate Manufacturing. An employee of the West Third Street business tells police the copper was stolen likely between 11pm Sunday and 5am Monday.

Authorities estimate the copper is valued at $4,500-dollars and weighs about two-hundred pounds. Because of the construction material's weight, police suspect the burglar to have been in the facility before.

Police say a copper wire surrounding the locked cage was bent-- allowing for the perpetrator to get near the copper. They are waiting to obtain copies of Midstate Manufacturing's surveillance videos.

If discovered, the suspect faces felony theft and burglary charges. If you have any details regarding this incident, please forward them to the Galesburg Police Department or call the Galesburg-Area Crime Stoppers hotline.
