Changes in Insurance Options Approved for County Employees
There's two new health insurance options county employees have in addition to the current and now amended plan.

The Knox County Board approved the increased funding levels Wednesday night with a thirty-day open enrollment extension for retirees. Claims over the past year and a half have amounted to more than $1 million-dollars-- prompting a fix.

Insurance Advisory Committee Acting Chair David Erickson tells WGIL premiums will decrease some but deductibles are being raised-- some by thousands of dollars.

"There is a larger deductible under either one of the two new plans if they select those, so they will have more out of pocket costs potentially," Erickson said. "But it does provide them the opportunity to receive preventative health care on certain issues that will help them address health concerns they may have into the future."

District-Two's Paul Stewart was only board member to vote against the item Wednesday night.

He claims tax payers will be footing more of the bill and the general fund will be taking a hit of over $400,000-dollars. He says he'd rather see the employees contribute more.

The committee began meeting in February to discuss amending health coverages.

District-One Democrat Lyle Johnson presided over Wednesday night's board meeting. Board Chairman Greg "Chops" Bacon was absent because an illness in his family.
