City Council Approves Grant for Local Manufacturer
A Galesburg manufacturer is getting some financial help upgrading a facility it will soon start using.

Aldermen recently approved a grant of up to $10,000 that will help Midstate Manufacturing expand their operations into part of the old Butler Manufacturing Plant.

A water line will soon be going into the part they need on West Fourth Street.

Midstate's General Foreman, Shawn Pitman, says this is a good thing for the company and the city.

"This is going to be a win-win for Midstate and its employees, and also for the city," Pitman said. "We've taken a property that's been sitting abandoned for approximately seven years, and we're going to try and breathe life back into it. We feel the rewards far outweigh the risk."

Pitman says larger items will be able to be manufactured in the new facility once its up and running. Midstate purchased the site last year.

The grant was the first awarded in a new Water Infrastructure Grant program aldermen approved just last month.
