Son Found Guilty in Professor's Death
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- A McLean County judge has found 21-year-old Liam McCauley guilty, but mentally ill, in the 2009 murder of his father, Joseph McCauley, a professor at Heartland Community College in Normal.

Judge Robert Freitag issued the verdict Tuesday afternoon after a five-day bench trial.

The younger McCauley faces 20 to 60 years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 20, but will be eligible for mental health services in prison.

Police say 57-year-old Joseph McCauley was beaten and stabbed to death at the family's home last August. He had taught arts and humanities courses at Heartland for 18 years, and an art scholarship was set up there in his name after his death.
