Tentative Budget for District-202 Colored Red
Faced with increased cuts by the state legislature, District-202 has joined a growing list of other Illinois school districts in proposing a budget deficit for the next fiscal year.

Steve Wilder is the Superintendent of Schools in Knoxville. He tells WGIL there's not much else the school board could do Monday night other than to approve a tentative 2012-2013 budget in the red.

"We just have to deal with the hand that we've been given," Wilder said. "And unfortunately for us, that's meant some decreases in revenue coupled with increases in expenses-- which is a natural part of life."

"We're looking a little bit of a shortfall in the operating budget next year, and that's something we'll have to keep a close eye on and we'll do what we can to make ends meet next year."

Wilder says that shortfall amounts to almost $175,000-dollars.

He says the biggest contributor to that is a second strait year of general state aid being pro-rated. That number is now at 89-percent, which Wilder says is another $200,000-dollars lost for the district.

Wilder wishes he had a crystal ball to see what the future holds financially for District-202. He says district officials will spend conservatively so they don't jeopardize the learning opportunities for Knoxville students.
