New Life for Former Galesburg Restaurant
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 7/25/12 Another new business development is being planned for Galesburg -- this one, on the site of a former business.

The Galesburg Planning and Zoning Commission voted Tuesday night to approve a site plan and a development ordinance variance for the site of the former Steak House restaurant at 951 and 969 North Henderson Street.

The developer wants to build a small restaurant on the site, and a retail and office space.

Doug Levin of Naperville-based Metro Area Properties is working with the developer, and says that's about all he can say about what will be there for now, even after commission member Leigh Nygard tried otherwise.

"Is this a franchise, what brand of restaurant is this," Nygard asked.

"They prefer to remain anonymous for the short term here for competitive reasons," Levin answered. "But, it's pretty well-known and I think it would be well-received."

Levin did say the developer is working with local and chain outlets, along with others for what could go in the retail side of the facility.

The Planning and Zoning Commission also approved of a Development Ordinance variance for People's Do-It Center, so they can build a new lumber storage facility on the site of the one that was destroyed by fire in April.

An appeal of an order regarding new restaurant "Good Stuff BBQ" at Main and Farnham Streets wasn't heard. They were appealing an order to stop operating outside the restaurant building there, but city officials say the owner will be moving inside the facility within a month, so they allowed the eatery to continue operating as is.
