Taste of Galesburg Provides Tantalizing Treats
New vendors and even old ones alike use the Taste of Galesburg to remind folks what they're all about.

Take Gale Mangieri's Java Station for example.

"Even though we've been there, Java Station's been there for six years, there's a lot of people that don't know it's there," Mangieri said.

The Mangieri's have owned the North Henderson Street cafe and espresso joint the past four years. Thursday night, Java Station provided strawberry, apple pie, and coffee flavored smoothies for two tokens each. Java Station claimed the Taste's award for 'Best Tent Display.'

Sidetrax Bar and Grill, located only a few blocks from the festival's East Simmons Street location, took in the Taste for the first time. Owner Matt Bernardi tells WGIL why Sidetrax over Sully's Pub.

"People kind of know Sully's menu already, and know that we've been there for fifteen years," Bernardi said. "(It's) Sidetrax first year open, (we) thought we'd get our name out there a little bit more, show them the different things that we have."

"We don't have Pulled Pork or Italian Beef at Sully's, and so we have it at Sidetrax and thought we'd give it a shot and it's been going pretty well," he said.

Bernardi says the turnout to his stand was great, but he wishes they made more of the Italian Beef. Sidetrax sold out of the dish halfway through the event-- which was awarded honors as 'Best Beef Sandwich' at the festival.

Twenty-one vendors in all participated in the 26th Annual Taste of Galesburg, and more than two-hundred and fifty people volunteered.
