Drought and Cattle Don't Mix
The heat of last week, coupled with a lack of water, is too much for even the some of the biggest of creatures to handle.

In addition to his involvement with the Illinois Soybean Association, Warren County Farmer Ron Moore also raises livestock. He says he's had to bring cattle in from pasture due to water drying up and put them in feed lots -- something he normally doesn't have to do until late-August or early September.

And Moore tells the WGIL Mid-Day that's causing other problems, but nothing that can't be overcome.

"We're starting to use our winter stock-pile of hay, too," Moore said. "It's going to be difficult to manage, (but) I think we're able to do that. Farmers are pretty resourceful people and we'll figure out a way to make things work."

Moore says he is concerned about what he's going to have to pay in the next year for feed for his cattle, since the drought is causing corn prices to go up.

By the way, Moore says much like with the corn, he says he can take all the rain he can get for his soybeans.
