County Contracts Amended for New Insurance Options
The new insurance options the Knox County Board recently enacted are now in place in some employee's contracts.

The Knox County Board during a special meeting Monday approved amending the collective bargaining agreements for employees of the Knox County Courthouse and State's Attorney's office, along with Knox County Sheriffs Department patrol officers, to include the new insurance options approved last week.

District-Four Republican David Erickson is acting chair of the Insurance Advisory Committee and tells WGIL he hasn't heard much yet about whether employees like the policies or not, even though some people have criticized them and their increased cost to taxpayers.

"I personally haven't had a lot of contact about what they think about," he said. "And certainly the Insurance Advisory Committee, their participation--employees' participation at that level-- was able to answer a lot of questions. It wasn't a complete unknown."

"Certainly, there are changes that the employees have to get educated on."

There are several employee union contracts still being negotiated, and Erickson says those will hopefully be worked into those deals.

The Knox County Board also green-lighted sending a letter in support of some changes in freight rail regulations, similar to ones the board supported in 2010.
