Post-fireworks Motorcycle Crash Injures Galesburg Man
A Galesburg man suffered multiple head injuries in a single motorcycle accident leaving the fireworks display Wednesday night.

A police report indicates 23-year-old Michael Knox was life-flighted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria after crashing his motorcycle around 10pm on North Henderson Street.

Witnesses say Knox was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and was weaving in and out of traffic upon exiting the Lake Storey area. They say he braked to avoid contacting a slowing vehicle just prior to the US-34 overpass, and flew over the handlebars of his motorcycle. The 2003 black Yamaha then flipped end-over-end down the road.

Police say Knox sustained an orbital fracture, facial lacerations, and rib fractures, among other injuries. His current condition is being listed as "good."

According to records, Knox did inform police he'd been consuming alcohol throughout the holiday evening. A preliminary test revealed his blood alcohol content level to be above the legal limit at point-one-one-three.

He also admitted to using meth. Authorities say Knox had an active Knox County warrant out for arrest on methamphetamine charges.

Knox was cited for DUI and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
