City Council Approves Energy Aggregation Deal
The Galesburg City Council has okayed the city working with a firm that will work to get voters to approve a measure that could save them money on their electric bills.

Aldermen this week approved working with DaCott Energy Services on energy aggregation methods should voters approve that in November.

That's the process by which residents could save money on their electric bills through using an outside firm to get energy, while Ameren would still distribute it.

Steven Guy with DaCott Energy Services says that can be pretty substantial savings.

"It's going to range between 25% and 30%, off the supply side only," Guy said. "You have two parts to your bill...the top part of your bill that's coming from Ameren, that says 'Supply.' And so, that energy supply portion is the only portion of the bill that we can effect. The other portion is the utility, but it's kind of tough with Ameren, because Ameren is also a marketer and a supplier. But the bottom part of the bill will stay the same."

Guy says that savings may be less at first, because if voters approve energy aggregation in November, they'll be joining up in the middle of a cycle.

Voters in communities around the state in the most recent election cycles have widely approved energy aggregation already, including Knoxville.
