Tours Given of Master Facilities Work
There's still a lot of work to be done, but Lombard Middle School will be open in time for school, despite work being done all summer as part of the Galesburg School District's Master Facilities Plan.

The District's plan implementation committee Tuesday toured the work being done at Lombard -- the installation of a geo-thermal heating and cooling system and other upgrades, along with the construction of temporary classrooms for use while other work takes place during the school year.

Chad White of lead contractor Russell Construction says those temporary classrooms will get use, but hopefully not too much.

"And I think that the principal is trying to limit the number of classes that have to use this space, so they may not all be full," White said. "There's six classrooms here in case they need them."

The work at Lombard is scheduled to be finished next year.

Meantime, work to draw up plans on another part of the first phase -- work at Galesburg High School -- could begin as soon as next month, once a sub-committee dealing with the safety of putting artificial turf in the Galesburg High School football field is formed and can make a recommendation.
