Library Board Meets Master Facilities Plan
Assuming construction of a new Galesburg Public Library goes forward, the people tasked with bringing that to reality have a better idea of how to do it.

The library board's New Construction Committee met Wednesday with officials responsible for implementing the Galesburg School District's Master Facilities Plan -- Assistant Superintendent Guy Cahill, Construction Manager Russell Construction, and district architect Bob Johnson, along with his business partner in Metzger-Johnson, who has experience in building new libraries.

Cahill told the committee that they're at the stage now where they can be plenty optimistic.

"Dream big, because you'll only get a bite of the apple once every hundred years in the case of a library, probably," Cahill said. "Dream big. You can always scale [back] after the fact."

Cahill, however, said there was one big difference. He says one way or another, the district's Master Facilities Plan was going to be paid for, while in the case of the library, funds are being raised for new construction.

Most seemed to favor the type of Construction Manager method of building that District-205 is using, but said involving the public in the process, which the school district has, will be very important.
