Library Board to Host Meeting for Construction Plans
The different approaches to building a new Galesburg Public Library will be discussed at a special meeting later this month.

New Construction Committee Chairman Mike Kroll told the library's Board of Trustees Thursday that the meeting will be held August 15th, and invited to speak on the different methods of construction included local architect Bob Johnson, Davenport-based Russell Construction -- Construction Manager of the Galesburg School District's Master Facilities Plan, and District-205 Assistant Superintendent Guy Cahill, among others.

Kroll says from there, an architect will be selected, with one caveat based on his experience on the Master Facilities Plan Committee.

"One of the requests that will be included is that they not send cherry-picked presenters who never come back again," Kroll said. "Whoever comes and does our presentations and deals with us, have got to be the same people that would be assigned to the job if they are selected. That is one of the requirements that will be on our RFQ, so we're not going to end up seeing someone we've never met before when the time comes."

Kroll says the library hopes to send out letters inviting Requests for Qualifications next month, interviewing architects in December, after going through applications in October.

The board also learned that there is a potential big-dollar donor who may want naming rights to some portion of the new library. The board agreed that a procedure for such needs to be developed.
