City Plans For Restoration
In 1851 the Major Newton Walker home was built in Lewistown Illinois, furnished in plaster and wallpaper, hard maple flooring and cherry wood trim.

Now thanks to a group of history enthusiasts the home will be restored to it's original condition as much as they possibly can, in the hopes of turning the home into a museum.

The group is now calling themselves the "Restoration 1127" and is looking for volunteers to help compete the project.

They say the home once played host to Abraham Lincoln who spent time there discussing politics, telling stories and listing to Major Walker play his fiddle.

The group says there's still a lot of work that needs to be done including research, planning and funding.

The community is invited to join "Restoration 1127" or you can stop by and see how the project is progressing.

The group plans to have the home open for visitors during the Spoon River Scenic Drive or you visit the home whenever the "Restoration 1127 in progress visitors welcome" sign is posted out front.

The home is located at 1127 North Main Street in Lewistown. The home has been recognized as a historically significant structure.

If you are interested in helping the restoration you can call the Lewistown City Hall at (309)547-4300 or Kelvin Sampson at the Dickson Mounds Museum at (309)547-3721
