Record Restitution in Accident Involving Squad Car
Not long after Knox County State's Attorney John Pepmeyer defended himself after settlements in unlawful termination and sexual harassment cases against him, Pepmeyer is taking what he considers a victory in a case involving Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.

Pepmeyer's office Friday announced that $130,000 in restitution was received in the case of 43-year old Benjamin Davila of Dunlap, who pleaded guilty in March to Aggravated Driving Under the Influence.

Pepmeyer's office says that's a record.

The amount received was part of a sentencing hearing Friday. Court records claim Davila was sentenced to 180 days in jail, which he will be allowed to serve in Peoria County, but Pepmeyer says he will serve 120 days of work release in Peoria County, and will pay the county $22 per day.

Davila was arrested in July of 2011, after he was allegedly caught driving the wrong way down Interstate 74 near Woodhull, and allegedly slammed into Deputy Keith King's squad car.

King was injured, but Pepmeyer claims he's back on duty.

The restitution will go toward King's medical and workers comp costs, along with damage to the squad car.
