An Old Library Program Could Make A Come Back
The Galesburg Rotary club is applying for a literacy grant and asked the library to create a program allowing all students in district 205 access to the library even if they live outside of Galesburg.

Library director Harriet Zipfel says she looked into the idea and found the library did have a program called First Grade, First Card. The program allowed those students in the district and living outside of Galesburg use of the library, however Zipfel says the program was unsuccessful and stopped after 4 or 5 years.

Board trustee Mike Kroll says he believes the current policy already allows for students not living in the city but attending Galesburg schools access to the library. The board will look further into the current library card policy as well as the First Grade, First Card program and decided if a new program is need at a later date.
