lake Story Liquor Ordinance Up for Final Vote
The Galesburg City Council is expected to make a final decision tonight on whether or not to allow alcohol at the Lake Storey Pavilion during special events, after putting the brakes on the measure a few weeks ago.

Aldermen tonight are scheduled to vote on the measure. It was tabled a few weeks ago to allow for changes in the ordinance that 7th Ward Alderman Jeremy Karlin wanted.

Karlin said he didn't understand why only beer and wine would be allowed to be sold, and wasn't too fond of the notion of requiring bartenders to identify anyone 21 and over, since they already have mechanisms in place for that.

Aldermen Ken Goad said he wouldn't support the measure even with changes, in part, because it could open the floodgates to allowing alcohol at other city-owned venues.

But that's not all tonight. Aldermen will also hear on first reading the re-zoning change of land across the road from the Seminary Square Shopping Center, requested so that a developer could put up a hotel, duplex homes, and an office and retail complex there.

A request to change the zoning of 820 East Fifth Street -- the former Holy Rosary Abbey -- is also being heard on first reading. The city's Planning and Zoning Commission has previously recommended it be denied.

The Galesburg City Council meets at 6:30 tonight.
