Congressman Talks to Students About Veterans Day

The area's local Congressman says he was impressed with the way students at one of the schools in his district are choosing to honor their local veterans. 17th District Democrat Phil Hare spoke Tuesday to students at United Junior High High School in rural Warren County, where he praised the students for the assembly they took part in yesterday supporting local veterans. Hare told the students he's especially concerned about two groups of veterans: homeless veterans, and some female vets. "Did you know that a third of the homeless people in this country are veterans?" Hare asked the students. "And, of the third of the people that are homeless veterans in this country, about 25 percent of those are women veterans. I have a bill that I introduced, that we're trying to bring our homeless veterans off the street. We hope that, before we adjourn or the first, second week in January when we go back, we will pass the bill." Hare says the measure he's crafted will give money to the Veterans Administration to give homeless veterans shelter and work experience and training, and allow them to go to school and learn a trade. Hare even took questions from the students, ranging from his $169,000 salary, to even what is included in the Health Care reform bill the House passed over the weekend. (Rep.
