Bar Fire Stirs Monmouth
Danny's Tap in Monmouth was completely destroyed Sunday morning due to a fire.

Monmouth firefighters were on scene just after 7 o'clock Sunday morning but were unable to determine the cause of the blaze.

Danny's Tap had been sold about a year and a half ago and has six employees. Danny's tap owner Lonny Simpson tells WGIL he's not feeling too great right now.

"My main concern is the insurance," says Simpson. "If they don't cover it, man that isn't good."

Firefighters thought they had good control over the blaze after 20 minutes until a partial collapse of the roof extended it to about an hour and a half.

Crews said they were still battling hot spots in the ashes as of 9:30 Sunday morning. Assistant Fire Chief Brian Morefield tells WGIL they will inspect the fire later today.

"We initially thought we had a good stop about a half hour into it, but we had a partial collapse which extended the fire west," says Morefield.

The previous owner, Ron Roberts, said the bar had been in Monmouth since 1968 and that the citizens lost a place to socialize and a town landmark.
