State Police Again Stress Buckling Up
The Illinois State Police is once again out in full force making sure people drive safely over the Thanksgiving Day Holiday.

District Seven Trooper Jason Wilson says troopers, mostly through grant money, will be patrolling Interstate 74 and other roadways looking for four types of possible violations: those driving drunk, those not wearing seat belts, those speeding, and those text messaging and driving or dealing with other distractions.

Wilson tells WGIL troopers have dubbed those the "Fatal Four," and of those, seat belt violators will be looked for especially.

"Everybody knows click-it or ticket. And there have been several times that even I'v pulled over people that have failed to put on their seat belt and I said 'do you understand your not wearing your seat belt' and they actually say to me, 'I know click-it or ticket.' So it's a campaign that we love and we truly do believe in."

Wilson says it's also important to make sure everyone in the back seat of a car is bucked up as well, since state law now dictates that.

State officials say the number of fatal crashes on interstates increases during the Thanksgiving holiday period, half of which occur on Wednesday and Thursday.
