Unemployment Drops In Knox County
The Galesburg area saw non-seasonally adjusted unemployment of 7.8 percent in October. That's down from 8.5 percent year-over-year according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

The data - which combines information from Knox and Warren Counties - did tick up from 7.6 percent in September of this year.

According to the report, the last time Galesburg saw unemployment this low was in 2008 when the unemployment rate was 6.4 percent.

The City of Galesburg alone saw unemployment of 8.4 percent. This was the ninth consecutive month the rate has been equal to, or below, the previous years' level.

Knox County reported unemployment of 8.1 percent in October down from 8.9 percent one year ago, but that's up from September's rate of 7.9 percent.

In the surrounding counties: Henry reported 6.9 percent, Mercer 6.8, Fulton 8.9, and Warren County saw 6.9 percent unemployment.

Illinois reported a statewide unemployment rate of 8.4 percent with more than 558-thousand people unemployed.
