Lawmaker Previews Veto Session
A local lawmaker says there's only one way he will continue to support expanded gambling in Illinois: if something else is added to the pot.

The veto by Governor Pat Quinn of the gambling expansion bill is expected to come up during the fall veto session starting today. State Representative Don Moffitt supported it the last time because it included funding for various agriculture-related programs: University of Illinois Extension, 4H, and others.

The Gilson Republican tells WGIL that's still how he'd continue to support the measure.

"If those are on there I will give the bill consideration. Those are programs that are tried true and help people and are important to our economy, so this is the first time it's been apart of the gaming bill per say like it is this time. You know that's the only reason I'd consider supporting it if it has the Ag package in it."

Moffitt says there other important measures that he hopes will be dealt with during the veto session -- including pension reform. But he says he's concerned because a lame duck session has been scheduled for early January, and that such measures might be dealt with then.

He says there never should be a need for a lame duck session.
