Galesburg City Council Discusses Trade Missions
Plenty of discussion at last night's Galesburg City Council meeting revolved around funding for a trade mission to Indonesia.

Aldermen were presented with information from the World Trade Center in Chicago and the Economic Development Department in Galesburg.

City Manager Todd Thompson explained that Galesburg has adopted a globalization strategy in accordance with an E-D-A grant from 2010.

Global Strategies Director for the Economic Development Department in Galesburg Gary Camerano says the purpose of the trip is to help local businesses get ready to export more.

"Business match making gets our businesses one on one, face to face appointments with businesses that want to buy U.S products. So we're supporting goods and services not jobs and that's what the region needs."

10 local businesses have expressed interest in the mission.

Indonesia has the fourth largest population in the world with an economy growing at 6.5 percent annually.

The World Trade Center of Chicago's goal is to set up matches between world businesses.

The Organization is represented by 375 trade centers globally with 750 thousand members.
