Tax Levy and Master Facilities Plan Before School Board
A property tax levy that will be virtually the same as last year will be considered by the Galesburg School Board tonight.

The District-205 board this evening will consider a property tax levy that brings in about $300 thousand dollars more than last year, but for property owners, will be the same: a levy rate of $4.20 per $100 of assessed valuation.

District-205 officials say that means an increase of under 50 cents on the portion of your tax bill for the district, if your home is valued at around $100 thousand.

The board will also consider paying off a series of bonds that were issued last year.

The Galesburg School Board will also consider engaging an architect to perform the district's 10 year life safety review as required by law, and they'll consider adding to the District-205 Master Facilities Plan, in order to negotiate with architects to come up with a design for a proposed new Silas Willard Elementary School.

It may end up being up to voters to decide, however, whether or not a new school is built. If not, renovations to the current building will still be done.

The Galesburg School Board meets at 7:00 tonight at Lincoln School in an open session. That follows a closed door session scheduled for 6:20 pm.
