Sandy Fundraising Efforts Prove Successfull
The executive director of the Western Illinois American Red Cross Chapter admits she didn't know what to expect when she came up with an effort to help raise funds for Superstorm Sandy relief, but it proved to be very successful.

Carissa Scott says the local Red Cross chapter raised more than 41-hundred dollars yesterday through a drive-up donation drive. Parking spots in front of the East Main Street Red Cross office were blocked off so people could drive up to a waiting volunteer, give their contributions, and drive off.

Scott tells WGIL the idea for a drive-up fundraiser seemed to make sense.

"We actually had quite a few people come in off the streets giving donations and asking for us to do something along these lines because it's so convenient. So we decided it was a great idea and here we are today."

Several anonymous five-hundred-dollar donations were made, and some students gave another five-hundred dollars. That's on top of an area business providing a one-thousand dollar donation.

Scott says in addition to cash donations, blood donations are also being accepted on the regular donation days that will also help victims of Sandy.
