Offering Students A Virtual Class Room
The Abingdon School Board is looking into expanding the curriculum for students by way of Illinois Virtual School.

The idea for the program came about due to the districts troubles finding a Spanish teacher.

Superintendent David Black explained to the board Spanish classes are currently being taught by a sub, but this program would allow students to work with a teacher who's main teaching responsibility is to just teach Spanish.

The way this would work is the Illinois Virtual School has a certified teacher who records these lessons and the students would interact through email and occasionally chat," says Black. "

The Board approved entering an agreement with Illinois Virtual School.

Black says the current Spanish Sub will help students finish their Spanish One requirements and come January the district will hand the program over to Illinois Virtual School to start teaching both Spanish One and Two.

Also at last night meeting the school board announced they will not be passing a 2012 tax levy because the current school board will not be a taxing body after June 30th.
