Knox College On New Barack Obama Presidential Tour

The Illinois Bureau of Tourism is hoping to make a buck or two on all the Obama hype by adding the president-elect to the state's presidential trails. The Obama trail includes Knox College, where Obama gave the Commencement address in June of 2005, and four other sites. Jan Kostner, deputy director of the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, says travelers are encouraged to explore some of the sites. Kostner says it requires just a few days to take in the new Barack Obama Presidential Trail. "These are very easy, affordable, interesting getaways. (They are) not just for the families, there's also groups of people who really love history and culture and our heritage, so they're perfect ways to market to that group as well." Kostner says people who watched Obama's road to the White House can come to Illinois to see where his political career began. The other sites on the Obama trail are the Old State Capitol, the Illinois State Capitol, Grant Park and the University of Chicago Law School. Illinois also has presidential trails and accompanying historic sites associated with Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and Ronald Regan. Obama, on January 20th, will be the third U-S president to hold an honorary degree from Knox College. He received the honor for his service in the Illinois legislature and the U-S Senate. Former presidents Bill Clinton and Abraham Lincoln also hold honorary degrees from Knox College. Lincoln was honored in 1860 and Clinton received an honorary doctorate of laws from Knox in June of 2007. More information is available www.enjoyillinois.com.
