Congressman Tours Afghanistan
An Illinois Congressman who represents part of Knox County is currently in Afghanistan, and says it's already clear that U.S. troops are still needed there.

18th District Congressman Aaron Schock is currently in Kabul, and says he will be in a "hot zone" in the war there Wednesday.

The Peoria Republican has met with Afghan leaders already while in the country, and says there's no doubt that troops are needed in Afghanistan

"President Karzai made it very clear to us that if we leave now, before his country has the security force necessary to guard itself, then his government would not be able to maintain itself, and invariably, and would fall to the Taliban and these terrorist fighters," Schock said.

Schock says he agrees with Karzai that the 18-month troop withdrawal timeline is a good one, but says the plan should have been kept private, so that terrorists couldn't get a hold of the information, then sort-of hibernate for a year and a half, then go on the attack.

Schock says he's also concerned about how antiquated, in his words, Kabul looks. He says given all the money poured into that region for rebuilding, there's no drainage system there, not a lot of sidewalks, buildings that are bombed out, and a lot of pollution.
