Celebrating Service To Youth
Mayor Sal Garza awarded the "adult service to youth" award at Monday's City Council meeting to long-time service advocates Ray and Agnes Kimball.

Council Chambers saw a packed house at the start of the meeting. Among the attendees was state Representative Don Moffitt to see the award given.

The couple was awarded primarily for work on Agnes' religious retreat that occurs four times a year.

Ray Kimball says Agnes is the major player in "The Weekend."

"Had the vision, did all the ground work with help, but the Lord has gifted her with leadership in this particular endeavor," says Kimball.

Last year, Ray was a recipient of the YMCA Trophy.

Garza read the proclamation that said they are being recognized for 25 years of service to Galesburg in the program.

"The Weekend" celebrated it's 25th anniversary this year.
