Looking Back at a Big Construction Project
We begin our look at some of the top local stories of 2012 with a look at the biggest construction project the city has seen at least since it embarked on building a new water treatment plant several years prior.

The completion of the overpass at West Main Street, named for State Representative Don Moffitt, happened toward the end of October, only slightly behind schedule, but believed to be on budget nonetheless.

Aldermen approved naming the overpass after Moffitt after his help obtaining state capital construction funds that are paying for the lions share of the work on all three proposed rail crossing grade separations.

At the dedication ceremony, Moffitt quoted another well-known former Galesburg resident.

"Our native son and world famous author Carl Sandburg described our situation that we're in, he said 'nothing happens unless first a dream.' Today is the day when a dream of many decades becomes a reality."

While Moffitt is being given the credit for the money, he says it was a bi-partisan effort that got the money here.

Moffitt's mother was in attendance at the ceremony.
