Students Remain Key Part of Design Process for GHS Athletic Facilities
How the athletic facilities at Galesburg High School will be given a face-lift is so far being met with approval.

Those plans -- a part of the Master Facilities Plan for the district -- were discussed by the Master Facilities Committee Thursday night at Galesburg High School, coupled with members of the GHS football, baseball, track, and dance teams among others.

They heard about the plans for new football, baseball, and softball areas, along with a dedicated wrestling room, and an indoor track, among other amenities.

Architect Paul Kouri told the group there's a way they can help: and could affect the look the football field.

"We've shown something for the ends zones, it says Galesburg and gold on the North end zone, Galesburg and silver on the South end zone. Then we have a "G" that's similar to the "G" that's on the uniforms today. But that's just us putting something into the image. It's really a discussion that needs to take place on what is that logo in particular right at the 50 yard line.

Kouri wants the committee and especially students to start thinking about that -- and look and color of things like locker and weight rooms, and other visual aspects of the planned new facilities.

Nonetheless, Kouri says designers have come a long way since meetings in the summer and early fall where students and teams were first brought in to the design process.
