High School Basketball

The High School basketball season is beginning to wind down, especially for the girls teams in classes 1A and 2A, who will begin Regional play next week. Abingdon and Annawan will serve as hosts for 1A Regionals in our area, while 2A Regional play will take place in Kewanee and Rockridge. The Galesburg girls will wait until February 12th for their first postseason game at the 3A Dunlap Regional. The Silver Streaks will host Western Big 6 rival United Township tomorrow night.

The latest polls reflect a few changes following results from the past week. The Peoria Richwoods girls have dropped down to #9 this week in class 3A, after a loss to Normal U-high. Rock Island stays at #6 in the 4A rankings after last week's win over the Silver Streaks. On the boys side, Quincy is rated for the first time this season, as the Western Big 6 leaders show up at #9 in the class 4A poll. Chicago Simeon took over the top spot after beating previous #1 Whitney Young. Closer to home, Monmouth-Roseville again checks in at #9 in class 2A, while Kewanee Wethersfield is ninth in the class 1A poll.
