Local Sports Schedule 1/8/12
[y]Boys Basketball

The start of a 10-game homestand finds the Galesburg boys basketball team looking to snap a three-game losing streak Tuesday night. The Silver Streaks will host the Dunlap Eagles, in a rematch of last year's Regional Tournament opener that Galesburg won by 6 points last March. Coach Mike Reynolds' team is coming off of Saturday's 47-45 loss to Chicago Perspectives at the St. Anthony Shootout in Effingham. We'll have pregame coverage beginning at 6:40 with the tipoff scheduled for 7 Tuesday night on WGIL.

Other boys games on the Tuesday night schedule include:

Abingdon at Monmouth-Roseville
ROWVA at Ridgewood
United at Annawan

Girls Basketball

There's also a few girls basketball games to be played Tuesday night. One of those finds the Galesburg Freshmen traveling to Ridgewood. In varsity action, United goes to Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon, while Monmouth-Roseville continues to play at the Camp Point Tournament.

Elsewhere on the GHS sports calendar, the boys swimming team hosts United Township; the boys wrestlers grapple with Rockridge, and the girls bowlers are in Moline.

College Basketball

The lights will be on in John L. Lewis gymnasium Tuesday night, as the Carl Sandburg Chargers will host Kishwaukee for men's and women's Arrowhead Conference games. The Knox Prairie Fire will wait until Wednesday night when they travel to Illinois College in Jacksonville.
