Local Sports Roundup 1/9/12
Girls/boys basketball

A light Wednesday night local sports schedule does show a few girls basketball games to be played around the area. The ROWVA Tigers will have a tough assignment, as they travel to ninth-rated Kewanee Wethersfield. Elsewhere, the Galva girls will go to Stark County, and Ridgewood will play at West Prairie. The Galesburg girls, who are tied with Morton for the 10th place rating in class 3A this week, are practicing ahead of Thursday night's Western Big 6 game at Moline.

In boys play, the ICAC Tournament resumes, with Williamsfield drawing North Fulton in the first of three games tonight at host school Delavan. The Bombers beat Illini Bluffs in overtime in Monday night's opener.

Tuesday night, the Galesburg boys improved to 10-8 for the season, with a 58-48 win over Dunlap. Silver Streaks head coach Mike Reynolds said the team's defense rose to the occasion in the 4th quarter. Even though it was a non-conference game, Coach Reynolds said it was an important win after the Streaks had lost three close ones in a row. Wednesday night's game was the first of 10 consecutive home games, with East Moline coming to town Friday night.

College basketball

In college action, the Knox Prairie Fire men and women will be in Jacksonville to play Illinois College Wednesday night.

Tuesday night, the Carl Sandburg men improved to 10-4 for the season with a 81-76 win over Kishwaukee.
