Soriano Focused on Winning with Cubs

MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- Alfonso Soriano doesn't regret refusing a trade to San Francisco last season, a decision that cost the Cubs outfielder a World Series ring. Soriano vetoed a chance to join the Giants, who were looking for some help after Melky Cabrera was suspended. The 36-year-old Soriano said Monday that he didn't want to go "somewhere I wasn't comfortable" and stayed with the Cubs. Although the Cubs lost 101 games, Soriano had a terrific season, hitting 32 homers with 108 RBIs. He also improved his suspect defense. Manager Dale Sveum was aware of the outside perception that Soriano was lazy and unfocused. Sveum, though, found the opposite to be true and called Soriano "one of top five people I've ever been around in the game."
